Hi All

Have we had Bob Marriott give a talk to the Society in the past?  I came across his page during my research to restore the Dollond refractor as per my other thread:  http://www.hamaldemon.com/

He offers talks in his distribution email for Occasional Notes; the newsletter posted on his website.
He was Curator of Instruments and Director of the Instruments and Imaging Section of the BAA until 2017.

He's not among the speakers listed on the OAS website ( http://www.orpington-astronomy.org.uk/meetings/list-of-meetings/ ) but there are a few gaps in that.

I've heard Bob speak and he has personally helped with a historical instrument I was involved with some time ago.
He is a good guy, I regard him as old school, but perhaps that's because of his subject matter.  He spoke on the relationship of individuals to the advancement of science through history.  Did you know that J L E Dreyer (of NGC fame) was the astronomer for the Third Earl of Ross, and that their sons (both born at Birr Castle) went on to create the innovations that made the 'Dreadnought' battleships possible?
Not sure he will be happy to speak unless we take him to the pub afterwards!

Have not heard from him since his falling out with the BAA (no idea what that was about - dropped one of their instruments maybe?).  Would be good to hear from him again.
