Cranborne Chase first entire AONB to be dark sky reserve

Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is only the 14th such area in the world to be certified.

The status is awarded by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) to areas which offer "exceptional starry skies".

It is the first AONB in the country to be designated in its entirety.

I went there a few years ago with some imaging equipment but never had a chance, other than to setup, because of the murky skies.

It is nice and peaceful though, would be a nice place for a holiday cottage given the money.

From BBC news.
"Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is only the 14th such area in the world to be certified.

It is the first AONB in the country to be designated in its entirety.

The IDA status, which took Cranborne Chase AONB 10 years to achieve, means controls are in place to prevent light pollution."
Looks clear enough for me , perhaps it was just when you went RobertM.

Isn't the South Downs International Dark Sky Reserve closer?

It'd be good to see a rather longer list of such areas around the world. Of the 14 so far listed on https://www.darksky.org/our-work/conservation/idsp/reserves/ three are in England, two are in Wales, two in France, two in Germany, and one each in Namibia, Canada (Quebec), Ireland, the U.S. and New Zealand.
