If you've got a water softener - take it off line.
They have a habit of injecting chlorine into the line on re-connection to reduce the risk of bacteria build up which takes out the catalyst in the softener.

I don't have a water softener Noel, thanks for the thought though.

I got into the loft last night to reassure myself the cold water tank was re-filling and had sufficient water in it to start re-using it on a regular basis and it does appear to be OK - fingers crossed.
