METEORS FROM HALLEY'S COMET: A radar in Canada has detected radio echoes coming from the constellation Aquarius. This is a sign that the annual eta Aquarid meteor shower is underway. In the days ahead ahead our planet will cross a network of debris streams from Halley's Comet, producing a drizzle of eta Aquarids numbering 10 to 30 meteors per hour in the northern hemisphere and perhaps twice that number in the southern hemisphere. Usually, the eta Aquarid shower peaks around May 6th. This year, there might be an additional enhancement on May 4th or 5th.  Check today's edition of Spaceweather.com for more information and observing tips.

I should have put this into my May report but here it is anyway.

Thanks Doug, really informative and it is up to date facts like these that we should have displayed on the front page of the society website rather than just for the few who regularly use the forum.  Perhaps snippets like this should also go out on the TOAST email?  Something to discuss at Committee.

There's no point trying to make the main website into another solarweather.com (or whatever), because we do not have nearly enough people with time to make frequent changes to include the latest news (which is what a site like that takes).

The forum is a much easier place for anyone to put up notices, alerts, news stories, and all the rest, and to talk about them. Far better to encourage more members to use the forum.
