Hello again!

I spent a useful evening with Robert (thank you Robert) helping me out with my Star Adventurer.

However it became very clear very quickly that my current tripod (thanks Kenny) while fine for my dslr was not suitable for both the camera and the SA.

So, I have been having a look at some suitable tripods and have narrowed it down to the Manfrotto 055X range.

As weight is as much of an issue as cost...before I go and buy myself an early Chanukah present (thanks Mum) I thought I would double check that this is the right way to go.

I would prefer it to be carbon fibre (lighter) but still robust and capable of the payload of both astro bits.

Many thanks  :)

Carole

I just bought myself a 2nd hand Manfrotto for my Ioptron skytracker as my little camera tripod was not sturdy enough.  I bought it from the chap on the next pitch to me at Kelling who is a 2nd hand astro trader anyway.  I think he said he had more than one of these so might be worth contacting him.

I also have his E mail address and you are welcome to come and try out your star adventurer on the tripod if you wish.

Many thanks Carole. I would like to try out some tripods before I invest. If this guy has more Manfrottos I would definitely like to contact him.

Much appreciated.

Hi Racheal,

I bought one of these a year ago:

1 x   Manfrotto MK055XPRO3 Tripod and 498RC2 Ball Head

TBH I have never used with the SA. But I have to say it is a really solid mount & I reckon would be a really good mount for the SA.

John.

PS - I paid £169 a year ago - think it may have gone up a bit since then..
