Who is going to Kelling Heath next month?
What days are you going and pitch number?

I'll set the ball rolling.  I am asking because I need to see how many people want a DSC organised in Kent/Sussex.

I am booked for Thursday to Monday 10 - 14th pitch number T366
As usual if the weather is good I may turn up earlier/go home later.

Carole

Sue

Roy and I have booked  from Wednesday to Sunday but Roy has booked a day off work for Monday in case weather better at the end.  We are further down this time mid 500s Roy has details in a folder somewhere.

MarkS

I'm there from Friday pm to Sunday.  Might even stay Monday if conditions look good.

I need to look up the pitch number.

New tent!!

Mark

RobertM

I'm there at least from Fri-Sun in the main field somewhere.

New tent has so much more space plus I won't be sleeping on the ground any more :)

OK, so of the recent usual people who go to camp.

Mark = Kelling
Robert = Kelling
Fay = Kelling (she told me in an E mail)
Carole = Kelling
Sue and Roy = Kelling
Ivor = Kelling (I know by E mail)
Julian = Kelling 9th - 16th
Mike & Petra
Roger

Have I missed any-one, I don't think Doug and Rose go to Kelling in September or Delphine

Just need to hear from the remaining people though I think it will be a small camp if a local DSC is to be organised.

Pitches often come up for sale at the last minute.   Phone Kelling Heath or look on AstroBuySell.

Ivor

I'm there Friday to Sunday lunch time, If I drive up after lunch on Friday is 3hrs 40mins a fair estimate for the driving time?

Fay

Very funny Mark, I think Robert may be staying on in the rain etc now, because of the new tent, bed and saucepans!!!!!!!

I look forward to seeing Robert, making an early morning appearance in his pyjamas and dressing gown

Not too early Fay !  Id always thought I managed to getaway with it before :)

Unfortunately Mark is right, perhaps I'd better sell my pitch on the forum now  :cry:

Last time took me 4.5h from Beckenham via the Blackwall tunnel, M11 etc. The last half is slooooww A-ish roads.

Somehow I managed to misread that as BEDpan :)

Mark

Fay

Hope Robert is not getting that settled in!!!!!

Depends on how fast a driver you are and traffic conditions.  As Duncan says the last bit is slow due to only being A roads and I once got caught behind one tractor or agricultural vehicle after another.  I'd allow a bit more time if you can.

5 pitches from me Mark I'm 365

Carole

RobertM

I'm on 358... and not cancelled yet :)

Ivor

I'm out in the wilderness T PR 174 somewhere in the new yellow dragonfly area. No white lights, cover for my laptop anything else I need to avoid upsetting my neighbours?

Carole

So long as you have no white lights anywhere Ivor including in your tent, you'll be OK.  Cover any torches with red filn unless you already had a red torch.  No opening car doors after dark unless you've taken the fuse out or you've covered your car lights in red film.  I find it best just to remove everything from the car before dark and not open it again.

Carole

Sue

Just looked up our booking details  we will be on pitch 359.

Carole

Well the weather forecast has improved somewhat, so I packed the van up today and will go tomorrow.

See you all there.

Carole

Hope you get some good clear nights.  I hope to arrive early Friday afternoon.  I might stay until Monday.

Mark

Carole

Auroral activity tonight, I wonder whether they can see it at Kelling - trust us to miss it.  You may remember I saw some brief aurora there in 2011.

I would have liked to have gone today, but by the time I had finished packing the van it was far too late to go.

Carole

Sue

Safe journey Carole, see you tomorrow.

Ivor

[Roger] Are you taking the society scope you are borrowing to Kelling?  I've got the new battery for it and I can bring it if you want.

Is there a supermarket nearby or am I better off bringing food with me?

Carole

I wasn't planning on bringing any more than my own stuff Ivor, and there is enough of that. :!

There is a camp shop on site you can buy pretty much most food things in there and also camping stuff.  Also a pub which serves meals, and another cafe/restaurant.

Also a pub which serves meals ...

Carole

It also does great breakfasts :)

I should be there by tomorrow late afternoon/early evening, see you there.

julian

I will also be there by late afternoon

MarkS

Apparently, as soon as you arrive in person, you can book for next year at reception.  Telephone bookings will be not accepted until after the Star Party.  This deliberately gives preference to those who actually attend and especially those faithful regulars who get there early for a long Star Party.

Mark

MarkS

Hopefully you have a clear night tonight (Wednesday) and probably tomorrow as well :)

I'm not going to kelling Ivor, hopefully i can pick it up after, but my mother is seriously ill and i am spending a lot of time on the south coast for a while.
Also there is a hookup at Kelling.

Sorry to hear your news Roger, I'll arrange another time.

Weather is looking worse so I'm not sure your missing too much.

RobertM

A quick report from kelling ...

Clear skies and sunshine ... this is what kelling is all about :)

Robert

Ivor

Glad you are enjoying yourselves, its clear here at the moment but not so good tomorrow when I turn up :(

Once I'm set up if I head for RED 360 will I find you lot around that area?

If I choose to book for next year when I get there what pitch should I request?

Carole

Yes it was a glorioius night last night apparently predicted to be clear but not Saturday and thunderstorms on Monday.

Yes we are all around that area Ivor.

I'll bring along some cloud tomorrow.

It's not fair that you should have to suffer all that sun  8)

Mark

The Thing

I anybody there or is there just no wifi/phone signal? I think we should be told!

MarkS

Back home now.  Yes, the signal is terrible there.

Had some clear sky last night (between clouds) with SQM 21.25 mag/arcsec**2

Mark

The Thing

I seem to remember getting 3G when I was there last, but that was a few years ago now.

Carole

Just got back.  I had no phone or Wifi signal at all unless I made a point of going to the bar area which I only did once while I was there.

I came on Tuesday:
Tuesday = raining
Wednesday = clear all night
Thursday = clear practically all night
Friday = ditto
Saturday = 2 hours of clear sky early on
Sunday = cloudy
Monday = raining

So not bad at all and a good time was had by all.
