Chrome add bookmark star etc has gone missing

My book mark star has gone white and can't save bookmarks, I've found a work around, but wonder if something has been changed or gone wrong with this if you have a similar problem.  I don;t seem to have a spanner/Wrench either, but can't remember whether I had one before.

Oh sounds like they have changed something, so dont know how to bookmark now though.

Had major problems with computer last couple of days, it seems an AVAST driver took it right down to just a black screen. a friend took 3 hours to sort it, I did not think it would be ok.
