Carole

Sorry to start this so early, but I am going on holiday next week and will be away for DSC, so thought I'd get the thread started to find out who is going and where every-one wants to go so I can at least make some enquiries/provisional booking.

So who would like to go and where do you want to go?

Carole

julian

I like to go and don't care where. as long as I can go in the van.

Fay

I would like Cairds as I have a dodgy leg

Carole

Peter at Cairds intimated that we could go there in March (i.e. he was not booked up).

I'll check if that is still the situation.

Carole

Fay

ive had this pulled muscle, or whatever, for about 9 weeks, off to doctor again tomorrow, im trying not to aggravate it too much, in case i never get it better

Mike

I'm up for it. Anywhere.

Kenny

I'm a maybe, but think I need to stop procrastinating and just bl**dy go. I want a hookup though. Other than that, anywhere dark and dry.

Carole

I have sent a message to Cairds asking for condition of the ground, and availability including the glamping Pod for Fay.

I think since some of you would like to try out this camp this would be the time to try it out, as he gets too booked up during the summer months.  We can then go to Running Waters during the summer.

Could some-one volunteer to finalise the booking wherever you go in my absence please.

We always go to camps with Hook up these days Kenny.

Reply from Cairds:

QuoteThose dates will be fine and the Pod will be available for then as well. Ground is still wet in places but improving with this better weather.

So would you like to try Cairds this month as you might not get a chance again until the autumn?
Maybe having to leave cars in the car park if the ground hasn't dried sufficiently.

Carole

Fay

Thanks Carole, that is great as long as everyone else is ok as well

Campsite owners: Pete and Sue Seeney.
also a very helpful (and interested) Welshman who's name I have forgotten (sorted of related via their offspring), who seems to have a permanent Caravan there.

They will turn the lights off at the hook ups and there also appears to be a new light on one of the horse barns which they said they will also switch off.

As previously stated there is a small country road at the back of the campsite, but the headlights are pointing at right angles to the field and there weren't too many cars last time I was there.

Fay has Pete's E Mail address and has kindly agreed to finalise arrangements with you/them during the last week.

There is a slight slope to the field, it is probably a good idea to park so when you need to drive away you start off downhill rather than uphill while the ground is still damp (voice of experience  :!).  Or even park all the cars at the back of the field and all the tents and kit on the lower part that way you can all drive away downwards.

Reminder of field:

Apparently there are 9 hook up points, so if any-one has a splitter it might be a good idea to bring it just in case any extras turn up.

I think you just turn up and pay when you get there Roger.  The owner is aware that DSC is weather dependent.  No block booking.

I have forgotten how much per night (£11 or £12 per night ish rings a bell), there is a phone number o the website link above if you want to ring and check it out.

Carole

Fay

I am already keeping Peter up to date, if you want to concentrate on your holiday Carole.........

Mike

Who has been to Caird's so far?

On the pictures it looks super slopey. What is your verdict?

Fay

i think carole mentioned a small slope
It is healthier to be mutton dressed as lamb, than mutton dressed as mutton!

The Thing

I've seen it in the dark, the lights (Caroles) down the field weren't that far down so the slope can't be too bad.

Ivor

It's a 10-20 degrees slope I'd estimate, from my reccy in the dark. Not  a problem from scope point of view but you would want to make sure your tent is facing the right way

ApophisAstros

am i right that fri nights going be wet all night and saturday drying from 18.00  and very clear all night saturday?

Mike

It's early days yet but so far the forecast is predicting a very wet and very windy weekend unfortunately.

RobertM

It's not looking good, we'll have to make a decision.

What are people's thoughts ?

Robert

Mike

I agree it's looking pretty ropey at the moment.

The Thing

I don't know what forecasts you lot are using but Meteoblue and ClearOutside show Friday as being good and clear down to 1C. Saturday not so enticing but who knows. Certainly no wind or rain. Are you sure you are looking at the right location!

And YR.NO, Carole's favourite is in the same ballpark. http://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/England/Ticehurst~2635862/

Kenny

I'm pulling out of this one.

The Thing

Robert and I are still up for it. Who else? We'll forget what fun a DSC can be if we don't man up a bit.

RobertM

Unfortunately Fay is a bit poorly and won't be able to attend DSC this weekend so if anyone is relying on her for anything please then let me know.

For those interested, Friday is looking like it might be ok, Saturday the opposite at the moment.

Robert

MarkS

Sorry - I'm going to stay at home in the warm.
I'm not 100% well yet and don't want a relapse.

Have a good time.

Mark

ApophisAstros

id like to go still as i am borrowing a meade ETX 105 from Oas equipment, when would everyone still going arrive?

looking good at Cairds. Cloud free and geting nippy.

Mike

I've only just got home from work so i'm going to give it a miss. By the time I get everything out of the garage, pack the car, drive down and set up it will be after the clouds roll in anyway.

Hope you have a good night !!

Mike

MarkS

How murky was the sky last night?  Here at home it was quite dark at Zenith but very murky towards the horizons.  Transparency was not good.

Mark

Mike

What's it like down there now? It's chucking it down and blowing a hurricane here.

It was much the same but better earlier in the evening, we gave up at about 11.  It got down to freezing but that was bearable because it was so still.

It was blowing up a bit when we left at 11 this morning.
