After discovering the extent of my netbook's screen colour imbalance from my last submission to the gallery I've been looking at the various gadgets out there.

It's a quite varied mixed options with a wide price range (most of it at the wrong end of the spectrum) so I'd be interested in hearing any recommendations or steer clears. Of course knowing what a creative bunch you can be has anyone found cheap solution?

Cheers

It must work VERY well Mick as you are always the first to pick up on any blemishes in images.

Rocket Pooch

I have one of them as well Mick.

The Thing

I have an older version. It's very good.

As everyone seems to have gone with the Spyder product I'll narrow down my chooses based on your positive feedback. A quick look at Amazon shows 3 products in the range, their site keeps crashing in the old decrepit version of IE they insist on using in the office (hold back rant about IE vs any decent compliant product), which would you recommend?

I've received my Spyder4pro and calibrated my netbook monitor, there is a clear improvement however it states the colour profile as only having 42% of AdobeRGB and 56% SRGB. I didn't expect it to be particularly good as it's only an average netbook however I'd be interested in knowing what others get so I can judge whether I need start considering better alternatives.

bump, lots of posts in the last 12 hours :)

The Thing

Your screen should be calibrated to SRGB colourspace standard as that is what all screens on Windows PCs are trying to be. In my Spyders software you just choose that as the target, it generates a profile that corrects the screen output and then tells Windows to use it. It sounds like your Spyder is just telling you the current situation i.e. the screens colourspace is partly Adobe and partly SRGB - not a good thing!
