Jupiter Red Spot Transit Tonight (Tuesday 8th)

Red Spot transit at 9:43pm tonight (BST)

There was about 45 minutes of reasonable seeing tonight (Tues 8th September 2009).  I took 14 AVIs of 3 minutes!  
Below is a very quick processing of just one of them.  

Details:  Philips SPC900 webcam with x2 Barlow on Celestron C11.  This image is 500 frames of 0.2sec stacked in Registax then deconvolved.

There's another very favourable red spot transit at 11:30pm BST on Thursday night and the current forecast is for a clear night.  It's favourable in the sense that it almost cooincides with Jupiter's maximum altitude:  22degrees at 11:06pm BST.

Same for me ! 

Thats a good capture Mark considering it was so low.  I did get some eyepieces out last night for a quick visual between the trees and cloud later on but the conditions weren't best ever.  It's still an impressive sight non the less.

Lovely Mark, lots of detail in the banding, plus a nice red spot.  Is that red spot junior next to it?  Or has that dispersed?

No its not red spot junior - as far as I know this dark feature next to the Great Red Spot has no name.

The scar from the recent impact is still visible but not in the right place to appear in that image.
