Shuttle undocks for Earth return

The Discovery shuttle has undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) to start its journey home.

The orbiter pushed away from the outpost some 350km (220 miles) above the Pacific Ocean.

Discovery's crew has delivered a new connecting node to the station, dropped off a new resident and undertaken a remarkable series of spacewalks.

Astronauts on the shuttle Discovery have been given the all-clear to land at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

They spent Tuesday testing flight control systems and packing away equipment after undocking from the International Space Station (ISS).

The shuttle is scheduled to land at 1301 local time (1801 GMT) on Wednesday.

The crew touched down at 1301 ET (1801 GMT) at the Kennedy Space Center.
