Atlantis countdown resumes

NASA is ramping things up again ahead of the rescheduled launch of the Shuttle Atlantis this Wednesday 6 September.

The launch was originally scheduled for 27 August, but a lightning strike followed by the almost-hurricane Ernesto meant the countdown had to be halted.

Nasa 'hopeful' of shuttle launch

Nasa is optimistic that Wednesday's planned space shuttle launch will go ahead, after forecasts predicted favourable weather conditions.

Officials added that no technical issues had been reported that could delay Atlantis' lift-off, scheduled for 1229 EDT (1629 GMT).
