Title: A failure and a Cocoon - dust in Pisces and brightness in Cygnus
Post by: Roberto on Oct 08, 2021, 11:43:24
Hello All

I trust you are well.   I have been collecting photons whenever there are clear skies and produced the below two from data acquired in the second half of September and beginning of this month.

First, Abell 195 in Pisces:  https://www.astrobin.com/76txjw/D/ (https://www.astrobin.com/76txjw/D/)

Trying to emulate a great picture taken by Thomas Henne:  http://www.distant-lights.at/pre8-2019_09_11.htm  His darker skies, bigger telescope and masterful processing clearly show!

Whilst Abell 195 rose in the sky, I shot the Cocoon Nebula in Cygnus.  This is a much brighter (and easier?) subject to image.
Results and details here:  https://www.astrobin.com/kranhq/F/ (https://www.astrobin.com/kranhq/F/)

Hi Roberto,

I have to admit that I prefer your image to Abel 195 compared to Thomas Henne's (I'm not a great fan of star spikes, he has to many ). Your image is a lot cleaner in this respect. Also the wealth of galaxies that you've captured in this image is phenomenal. These galaxies are a lot easier to spot in your image. As for the dust clouds, they are so difficult to capture and they are easily visible here which is great.

Clear Skies

Was this in LRGB Roberto?

I ask because the nebulosity crossing the cocoon right angled (ish) to the dark nebula I believe is Ha.

Hi Carole

Yes, it has Ha in the diagonal.  It does show up in the RGB (OSC data) but I added the Ha to that section.
Thanks
