Title: Summer Plans......???
Post by: ApophisAstros on Jun 05, 2019, 07:47:36
Just a thread to chat about Y'alls plans for summer /Autumn.
Myself i want to image as much as i can at home as still saving for Septembers Kelling , as i am taking a Caravanette this time for a week . I managed to get a great deal from a nephews` friend. Have moved my pitch from where it was under trees, its now a lot closer to where the trade area goes.
I also want to get an OIII filter to partner my Ha filter which has been brilliant so far , may have to wait for kelling trade stalls though.
Roger.

Not got any equipment purchase plans as finally have my last Sii filter for my 2nd EFW.

Equipment mods:
After doing a number of mods already on my camping obsy, I am getting some replacement tent peg "hole thingies" made by some-one with a 3D printer as the supplied ones are starting to split.

Sold my SW130PDS (though the buyer still hasn't collected it and paid the balance).  Had my fun with a Newtonian, but am now sticking with Refractors and dual rig where possible as less maintenance.

Having been imaging for a number of years now am running out of targets, but there are a few I want to get more data on and improve.  Squid (not even sure this is possible with my kit as I have been told I need an Oiii 3nm to get the squid properly). More data for NGC2170.

Other targets I haven't done yet:  Still want to get the Shark Nebula and a couple of low down targets which may or may not be possible.    Pumpkin Nebula Sh2-232, NGC 467, Northern Trifid NGC1579, SH2-170 - the Little Rosette Nebula, Space Shuttle Nebula, NGC1788, LDN1622 The Bogeyman Nebula, and a few other remote targets.

Nice lot there, how much did you let your SW130PDS go for compare to purchase price?

How can you run out of targets, Carole? Howza`bout lunar, solar, double stars and things like that? Plenty of things up there, so don`t get downhearted....

Not interested in imaging double stars, given up planetary & Solar imaging.

I have given up planetary until 2025 or thereabouts when the orbital planes are more favourable and the planets higher in the sky.

The best way to find new targets is try an online planner like https://telescopius.com/telescope-simulator (https://telescopius.com/telescope-simulator) which lists things you've never heard of!

I'm doing summer maintenance, principally a rebuild of my TS1506  Newtonian so I can repaint inside the tube which has become a bit grey, that will be finished today. Also check my other scopes and lenses, fix my second focus motor, make a new dew heater for the Newt, rejig my 12v power supply arrangements, fix obsy ventilation after adding waterproofing measures filled up the airgaps, check the Canon 1100d still works etc.

I'm planning a lot of Cygnus area stuff as I haven't done much in that area with my ASI294 camera, I am looking at a widefield APO for that as well. I am experimenting with an atmospheric dispersion corrector for low deep sky objects such as the Trifid and Lagoon. I have 3 degrees advantage over London so a head start but I still have to contend with the neighbours pine trees which never grow shorter. Of course its New Moon and New Cloud at present. I have an hours astronomical darkness still so clear night in the next few days for experimentation would be good as well.

Challenging stuff from you accomplished people.
I'm just hoping it clears a bit before I forget how to use the stuff!

I need to rebuild my shed on wheels, as the floor has gone a bit wobbly (used a cheap bit of OSB to laminate the floor - gone soggy) and re-clad the shed as the original £100 shed cladding has now curled up and started to break off on the south side.  Two nice new sheets of marine ply await the project.

I always sell my kit 2/3 new price Roger as do most people.

Just caught up on this as I was away when it started.

I'd like to see some double stars ~ Doug talks about them but would be good to see an image of them from someone.

Pity about the Moon as well ~ I never get tired of looking at it.  I'll also look forward to 2025 and Duncan's go at the planets!

Best

Hugh

Double stars are great!  >900 observations for me since 2013 when I started going through the Struve lists.

Please put some more of your double star images on the Forum, Roberto, and I`ll include them on a future report. I know there are quite a few members who would be interested to see them.

Cheers Doug.

Sorry Roger; this is a 'no baggage flight' (suspect there's no snacks either).
But you could put your name down to go as well if you like:

Hi Doug

I don't usually image doubles; just do visual observations - sometimes with a filar micrometre.  I took this shot of Izar as we had some very good seeing at the end of May.  If I take any more, I will definitely share them.
Thanks

Roberto

I don't find star clusters and double stars interesting enough to bother imaging.  Occasional globular cluster, The double cluster and I did once try Albireo when I was just starting out.

Sorry.
