Title: Antares Region 2 years apart
Post by: Carole on May 15, 2019, 11:50:05
I am pretty crap with camera lens imaging, and this is a huge Crop.

Stars are squiffy, how can you attach a field flattener to a camera lens????

Anyway, I think this is the best I can do unless I can get hold of a telescope with a very wide FOV and get lucky with the skies at Cairds.  Also there was a first quarter Moon when the luminance was taken.

Original DSLR image taken in Spain in 2017 with Nifty 50 lens, Canon 1100D 4 hours 20 mins Bortle 5
Luminance captured at Cairds on 12/5/2019 first quarter Moon, same lens but Atik460EX with luminance filter.  approx 1 hour 3mins.

Combined as LumDSLR

Looks good, is it easy focusing with that rig.

I have a mini Bahtinov for the camera lens, though having said that I took a 2nd night to try to get the stars below Antares in the middle of the FOV and avoid those elongated stars at the edge and despite doing it carefully it was out of focus which is annoying as the stars are round in that area.
