Title: Advice from Gurus please

Can a chip deteriorate?

My QHY5 has developed an area bottom right - but a large area bottom right stretching from middle bottom to 1/3 up on the right where it is quite patchy and blotched.  I don't think I could see any stars in it.  I should have taken a screen shot and if it's like it next time I will do so.

I guess a chip can deteriorate electronically.  On the other hand it could have a physical cause. What does the sensor look like?  Is there dew?  Is there fungus growing on it?  Is there some other kind of deterioration?

I must admit I have not had a look at it as yet as it's still in the van, but will take a look later on.

Thanks

Aha, Sorted.   I took the camera off the finderscope and found that the foam inside the camera had slipped and was in an even worse position than when I was last imaging.

Why is this foam inside the cameras, and can it been removed?  I am sure it would be easy to do with some tweezers.
