Title: Cygnus Mosaic - 3 hours of my life wasted
Post by: MarkS on Sep 16, 2017, 08:53:11
This was supposed to be a pièce de résistance - a 25 pane mosaic of part of the Cygnus region.   Unfortunately it resisted all my efforts to get it right.  After 3 hours spent shooting the data I realised I had shot the whole thing as Jpeg.  In any case I dumped the files into AstroPixelProcessor and a few hours later it spurted out this result - a 150,000 pixel image:

Of course it couldn't cope with the vignetting but it flawlessly assembled the mosaic to sub pixel accuracy. APP really rocks!

The weather conditions weren't brilliant either - look at the "headlamps in the fog" effect around the bright stars - caused by a very thin layer of high cloud.  So my consolation is that I would have been very disappointed with the result even if I had shot it in raw format.

What a shame Mark, I can see what you mean about the fog lamp effect.
