Title: Images from Kelling
Post by: julian on Oct 21, 2013, 22:32:32
Bought an Ioptron skytracker camera mount Mk2 at Kelling Heath Star party with some others, bulk  buy better price. Here is the first processed image using it.
Canon modified 40D, Canon 50mm F1.4 lens set at F4 due to stars not being round at F1.4, ISO 800, Astronomik CLS filter, 23X300 seconds darks and flats used. Processed with Pixinsight which I have just started using for the first time and Photoshop.
Cygnus
Top left  is North America Nebula and Pelican Nebula and bright star nearby is Denb, bright star near centre is Sadr, .Bottom left Veil Nebula

Orion was a bit low down, but I thought I will give it a go.

They've come out well Julian.

I particularly like the one of the Pleiades and the California Nebula - it's not a view I've ever seen before.

Orion has also come out very well.  Is the Cygnus image mirror flipped?

What shape diaphragm does the lens have?  It creates interesting (but not objectionable) diffraction spikes.

Nice images Julian.  I took some with my SkyTracker but they didn't come out anywhere near as well (crap lens).

Yes it was, now changed thanks

You did well Julian - you got a lot of data. I would be interested in seeing a full size crop of one of the images - perhaps Orion or M45... if possible?

Are the blades straight edged or some kind of curve?

John they have only  been cropped about a diameter of Denb due to stacking

And thanks for all the feedback

Mark - was gonna say exact same thing - APOD's is a little deeper though !...

Julian - All really nice wide field images - Would be glad to hear what you think of PI as well - just starting to get to grips with it myself.
