Title: Laptop LCD replacement
Post by: Mike on Jun 12, 2013, 22:29:58
I did something really stupid at DSC this weekend and accidentally ran over my laptop, inside the laptop bag, with the car. Needless to say it didn't escape unscathed. When I opened it up the screen was broken. The laptop still powered up, but obviously it was unusable. I was amazed that there was a Nexus 7 tablet and an iPad 2 in there as well and they both came out without a scratch.

I was gutted and thought I was looking at a new laptop. However, when I got home I checked on eBay and sure enough you can buy replacement LCD's for this model. I thought I was looking at over £100 at least but as it turned out it was only £40 inc. postage. I bought one and it arrived yesterday.

However, the process to replace the LCD was very long winded and the entire laptop had to be stripped down just to be able to gain access to the 4 screws that held the LCD hinges to the base.

After much unscrewing and careful pulling apart I was able to replace the screen.

Now came the moment of truth. Would it power up and work or did I have a pile of crap on the table?

Phew, I was in luck. It all worked perfectly. So for £40 I had my laptop back again.

The moral of this story children is to check all around your car before moving off at DSC or you too could make a stupid mistake like me.

Great news that you've rescued it.

Well done!

I'm still amazed that it was only the screen that was damaged.

Yeah me too. However the laptop was inside a sleeve in the bag that had an air filled cushion around it to protect it so it got away lucky considering. Without that it would have been a mangled mess.

Who`s a clever boy, then?  Great stuff, Mike; that`s what you can do when you understand laptops.

Glad you got it sorted.
