Title: Jupiter, Europa, Io (on disc) & Ganymede (22 Aug 2011 02:12am)
Post by: The Thing on Aug 22, 2011, 08:33:20
LX90 8" UHTC, HEQ5, Moonfish 2x ED Barlow, Baader Neodymium 2" filter, SPC880 flashed to 900 webcam. Guided on a star with PHD, finderscope and QHY5.

300/600 frames @5fps using SharpCap processed in Registax 6 using default settings and the same wavelets settings as the last one. No darks or flats.

Io should be at the right edge between the dark bands towards the bottom one (NEB?) - there is a little splurge in the pixels that could be it!

Very nice Duncan, you've got a fair amount of detail there plus two Moons.

Thanks Mac and Carole.

I think I have overprocessed it a bit by 're-aligning with processed' after the first pass. The first pass result was a lot smoother.

Carole, there is a third moon (Io) on the disc but it only shows as a distortion right near the edge just above the bottom dark band. I know it's there because the planetarium says it is!

Very nice, Duncan. More than makes up for the "Jupiter's in the garage" disappointment of the other night...

Duncan,

Nice one but I think the previous one was better.

I'll have a lot of catching up to do once my hand is recovered from the op.

I have just had a go at processing this in AviStack 2.0. I think it's better with a lot more detail extracted from the data - but it took 1.5 hours rather than 5 minutes in Registax 6! Shame about the lines, may have a go without the dark and flat.

Stripy - see Phil's post above. Black point tweaked...

Duncan,

Great images and I think the processing of the image the second time has improved it. The 1.5hrs seem worth it. ;)

Thats a much better image of Jupiter, Duncan. But there seem to be red lines in the black sky.

I think they are an artifact. I need to play with the black point so they fade away. See below...

The tweak has made all the difference, Duncan. It's a really great image now!
