Who is planning to go to DSC beginning of March?
Me if the weather is OK
And (as I said last night, for the benefit of those that didn't go to AGM :P) the venue will be decided on the weather during the week. If it doesn't rain it will be Rother Valley if there is a fair bit of rain it will be Blacklands
Me! Me! Me! +:flame:+ :baa: = A good weekend!
Ah! The joy of the outdoors and the camp camaraderie. Not to mention the cider/beer/wine/stickies/spirits (though not in the same mug at the same time). A "cloudy" sky would be nice as well. ;)
Not sure about the sheep but Tony may have thoughts on that score.
Duncan, I will assume you are really excited!!!!!!!!!
Duncan, you do remember what end points up and what twiddly bits get twiddled ? :D
So that's what you and Duncan get up to.
:cheesy:
QuoteWho is planning to go to DSC beginning of March?
It depends on the weather. The websites I have looked on so far do not look very optimistic for that weekend.
When will these clouds ever end?????????????

Unless the weather is seriously crap i'll be there.
I'll only come down if there's a chance of clear sky. Otherwise I'll be at home packing - looks like we'll be exchanging contracts in the coming week. Lots to do!
Mark
Well so far the forecast is for clouds but as I'm going nuts at home I'll probably go anyway - unless it's chucking down.
Rother and Blacklands have both had some rain every day since friday (daytime or night) which is not good for Rother.
I'll whack off an email to Jackie to find out what the ground conditions are like but I'm leaning towards Blacklands
Not sure where you are checking but it doesn't look too bad to me at this moment in time:

Meteoblue forecast (http://www.meteoblue.com/en_GB/point/forecast/tab/b/pictocast/c/gb/f/13333) looks positive as well.
I wonder why they're so completely different from the Met Office forecast? :!
This is the problem, they never ever agree!!

Oh well, anyone got a coin :!
Have emailed Jackie anyway, they've installed the new drainage so hopefully all will be less boggy

Wonder if it was a French drain? Mac knows all about those!
So Rother then?
QuoteWonder if it was a French drain? Mac knows all about those!
I believe it is.
From what I understand of Mac's, they drain the water from certain areas of the ground then distribute it evenly over the places you want to get dry (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_VTfcx7bG__M/TWzyNQVtfXI/AAAAAAAABMQ/NgmTgpJ1PfI/ROFL2.gif)
Talking of water.....................................
Just filled the van up with water - not the tank - the van
I have a leak on the water pump - So it's off to Johns Cross tomorrow (at Robertsbridge) to get a new one.
Depending what time I get there, I might check out the ground conditions at Rother Valley.
QuoteI might check out the ground conditions at Rother Valley.
That would be great if you can Mick.
Carole
Just had a reply from Jackie :(
QuoteHello Mick,
Yes we have had lots of rain and at the moment can't get any vehicle onto the field as the entrance is very wet, though parts of the field higher up are quite firm.
I would suggest that we watch the weather - if it doesn't rain for the rest of the week then you could probably camp and Colin could help you get up the field. However your Motorhome would have to stay on the shingle area.
Let me know your thoughts.
Best Wishes
Jackie
It's neither warm enough or windy enough to dry the ground so I think we should give Rother a miss this time and
head off to Blacklands - It's not going to be much fun being towed in and towed out.
So does everybody agree with Blacklands ?
Yes - I agree with Blacklands (assuming I go - only if a clear night is expected).
My car got stuck in Nov at Rother Valley and it had hardly been raining ...
At the moment most forecasts are only showing Sunday night as being clear. Friday and Saturday cloudy.
Although I want to go, I must feel it is worth all the effort. It is always like this, we can never look forward to it the week before as weather forecasts are never accurate enough.
I have to get my camping shopping today, going or not, & it will probably be all down hill from then on
That's odd, doesn't look too bad here

I have a solution to that - buy things you can also eat at home if you end up not going - like a huge fry-up!!! It's great to have a huge fry-up in a field but if you end up not going, at least you can have a huge fry-up at home to mitigate some of the frustration.
And weird French stuff can also be drunk at home!
Mark
Yes that is what I thought Mark.
How many nights is anyone going for & who is thinking of going?
How is Blacklands ground Mick?
I haven't checked Fay, but Blacklands does drain better than Rother and it's not on a hill.
I'll email anyway.
If all is well I intend to go Friday as usual and may even stay on Sunday
I agree with Mark, all you also need to do is roll around in the mud a bit and pack unpack pack and unpack your car outside your house and drive around the block 100 miles, same feeling of dirtyness, cleanlyness and also packing without the need to stay in a wet field.
Sorted...
Now that could start a new trend - PSC - ( Pseudo Sky Camp )
F-PSC version, where you drive 720 miles south to see clouds and drive 720 miles back whilst burning money, a more advanced version of the same game.

You've been really unlucky Chris - the rest of France has clear sky at the moment. Are you sure you didn't take English cloud down with you?
Mark
If the weather forecasts stay as currently predicted I am thinking of going down Thursday afternoon (tomorrow) if I can get organised in time.
Carole
So is, Duncan, Julian, Mike, Tony going?
Duncan is going Friday evening for one night only if the rain holds off. A clear sky would be nice and there's more chance down there than up here.
I'll make my final decision tonight based on the available forecasts.
At present Friday night, for one night only, looks probable.
The weather forecast has changed so will decide tomorrow now. I won't be coming down and freezing unless there is a reasonable chance of a completely clear evening.
Carole
Meteoblue (http://www.meteoblue.com/en_GB/point/forecast/tab/b/pictocast/c/gb/f/13623) and Apanel (http://7timer.y234.cn/V3/product.php?language=en&product_id=1&country=UK&site=4813) both say Friday night will be clear in Henfield, though seeing and transparency won't be fantastic.
Just received reply form Blacklands - Not fantastic but .................................
QuoteHi Mick,
The field is wet, however there are places dry enough to put the tent, the motor home has to be on the drive (hard) around the field.
If you do decide to come, could you please fill in the booking request form on our website. www.blacklandsfarm.co.uk
Thanks
Maria
Any thoughts :-? ?
Not to sure whether I will be making this one, as I need to do DIY :wall: in the house that I thought I'd be in until my old age, but apparently not according to 'She who must be obeyed' :(
Tony G
I am beginning to wonder, really not sure what to do. I do not want to go thru all the palavars if the field is dubious & sky murky, & not many going. It has been a very bad winter & conditions will not be that good.
Quotethere are places dry enough to put the tent
But will these areas be near the hook up I wonder?
Carole
Well that is what I was thinking. Mick may be a long way from the designated suitable camping pitches as well
Humidity looks top notch as well

She's throwing you out before you get old?
One good thing -
At least it won't be an old peoples home

Have you thought about buying a tent instead?
Well have deliberated & congitated & have decided that I am not going. Fried breakfasts for the week!!!!
All a bit iffy & if not a lot of us around, it is not the same, and if we are scattered regarding dry pitches, not good.
So will have to wait until next time, after Kelling, when we can have a good chat, drink, laugh & image in the warmer weather.
PS it has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :squirrel:
QuotePS it has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do tell, it is what you ordered at Astrofest?
Carole
I'm not going to bother if the chance of a clear sky is slim. It's too cold just to sit in a field for 2 days for no particular reason.
The weather forecast is changing by the hour. I am thinking not to come now.
Completely agree with Mike's reasoning:
Quoteif the chance of a clear sky is slim. It's too cold just to sit in a field for 2 days for no particular reason.
Carole
Just had a desperate look at the forecast - not really improving.
I'm not going to bother for one night, I'll save myself for April when all the riff raff are at Kelling
Not sure what to do with all this beer though - Wait, I have an idea :cheesy:
QuoteHave you thought about buying a tent instead?
The van has it's advantages over a tent -
I can drive to a hookup around the road
Gas central heating
Hot running water (now I've fitted the new £102 water pump :!)
:P

Yeah but you can't squeeze it under the stairs until the next DSC. (unless you take out the front of your house)
Tony G

Quoteunder the stairs
Is that your DIY project, you're building stairs ?
If you put stairs in, it won't be a bungalow any more and you won't have to move ;)
QSI 583, Carole
Fay if you do go to Blacklands, you can always pop over, I'm only round the corner, ish.
Mac.
I would have liked that Mac, but am not going down there now, as too iffy. Julian is not going either or Mick.
Next time, I will make a detour
Wusses. It's going to be clear and crisp down there on Friday night and your going to regret it in murky Orpington!
I take it nobody is actually going. lm not going to do a Mark so its out in the garden for me.
Looks like it Duncan, shame, yes out in the garden tonight
I'm not going either. If there is any clear sky I'll use the garden.
Mark

Just to upset everyone who didnt goto DSC tonight.
When i left tonight at 10pm, the sky was crystal clear.
Mac
Just get yourself to work, Mac!
:cheesy:
Note to police, Looks like the spamming parts working, it said i had posted already 37 secs ago so wouldnt let me post,
It then said I had already replied to this post and wouldn't let me post again.
and that i had double clicked.
Now it wont let me submit this extra bit.
when I just checked Its taken no post from me on this message.
I think you'll find that's the weather police, not the forum police
Send that Pod back :!
I cant,
I've paid for all this bad weather, and now its finished, I can not take the blame any more. :cheesy:
:!
OK
Fay, send the QSI back :-?
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Looking at your observatory Mac, and I think that I may get one, or something similar ;)
Well, the weather can't get any worse...................can it? :o
Tony G
Good on you.
Its a pity its a closed market,
Im still waiting for my shelving.
Mac
Anyway, If I order it now, it may be delivered after I move next year. :cheesy:
Tony G
PS.................Mac, I wasn't serious about the Pod, but it took the flak off you being blamed for the weather for nearly an hour. ;)
Get a shed Tony. All blokes really want a shed. And then you can have fun sawing the top off.
