Title: Uranus - I misled you
Post by: MarkS on Sep 12, 2010, 19:26:25
For those at DSC - I misled you - but I was also, in turn, misled.  When Uranus and Jupiter make their closest approach on 18/19 Septemebre they will be separated by around 48 arcminutes not 48 arcseconds (48 arcsec is approx diameter of Jupiter's disc which means they would be extremely close).

The moral of the story?  Don't believe all you read in Astronomy Now (Sept p42)!  Greg's graphic is correct but it is incorrectly captioned and the associated article is incorrect.

And I was so looking forward to getting Uranus and Jupiter side by side in the Webcam!
