Title: Jupiter 31 Aug
Post by: MarkS on Sep 01, 2010, 00:31:04
Definitely my best Jupiter ever.

Philips SPC900 webcam at 5 frames/sec on Celestron C11 with 2x Barlow.
800 (of 900) frames stacked in Registax and then deconvolved.

Recorded at almost exactly midnight - the seeing was very good.

The processing was quick and dirty - with more careful processing I can probably tease out further detail.

This one was taken 15 minutes earlier and I've applied more severe processing to it.  The second red spot (just above the Great Red Spot) is more obvious in this one.

Fantastic. It's been ages since someone did any planetary images. Lovely detail.

That's really good Mark, you've even resolved the disk of Europa.  I must admit I find the Red Spot looks a bit nude without that equatorial belt !

I'm really looking forward to the next couple of months when it gets higher in the sky.

Excellent image Mark,
I was looking at doing this in France next week, and now this has encouraged me even more.
Let's just see if I can get something half this good, with or without a moon or two. ;)

Perhaps, Chris, but I tried it on Sunday night after playing with M15 - got the exposure completely round my neck

It's an extremely nice image, Mark.

only 5fps Mark? That seems a nice little camera. I forgot I cannot do the planets until I get a camera

Lovely image Mark. I was looking (!) at Jupiter in Normandy last week and it was stunning, even through my Skywatcher 80AT at 90x.
