Title: Andromeda Galaxy and Perseid
Post by: MarkS on Aug 11, 2010, 09:05:04

Last night, here in France, a Perseid went straight through one of my 5 minute subs of M31.

Usual setup: modified Canon 350D on Tak Epsilon 180ED.

Here is the 5 minute sub:

Mark,

Are you sure it wasn't the other way around
"And as I was tracking a Perseid meteor, to my dismay, a nearby galaxy passed through the background, spoiling, what I thought was an excellent shot of the meteor" :D

PS..................Another great image for your collection of 'Right time, right place' category. ;)

Nice Green one Mark, you and your lucky camera again!

That looks great for 1 x 5 min sub, how many did you take in total?

I've got 60 x 5min so far.  But the Perseid has wrecked one - so call it 59.

I actually saw the meteor go through - in fact 2 in very quick succession - with parallel paths.  I'm hoping Thursday night will be clear - I'll leave a camera running all night with a lens.

Mark,

I think if you capture enough of the Perseids' you should be able to sigma combine out the galaxy.

Chris

P.S. Sorry non-imagers you probably don't get that joke.

Fay,

There's me sitting here looking at your post and wondering what you're on... then I looked at one of your other posts and realised it was ... SHOPPING

Robert

Mark,  You will burn out the core with 5 mins on the yellow beast, combine it with shorter exposures.  Ooops sorry you're trying to capture Persieds aren't you... try pointing at the radiant and you'll get a better hit rate  :-?

I meant big strong & obvious as M31 is. It does not sort out my aircraft streaks if they are too big or bright with more than one line

Why are you imaging aircraft streaks ? :o

Mark,

Why don't you send this into 'Spaceweather.com' or 'Sky at Night' as this would definitely be published, just because of  the subject matter, and you never know, a prize at the end of it.  ;)
