Title: QHY5V
Post by: Fay on Jun 17, 2010, 20:59:07
has anyone got the above camera? Needed for guiding, lunar, planetary?

Thanks, wondered how it performed

I have the QHY5, not the V. Great big chip makes guiding a doddle as there is always a suitable star available.

Have you tried it on lunar imaging Duncan?

I also have the QHY5 (not the V).  I've only used it for guiding so far.

The QHY5 has a larger CCD than the V and more pixels than the V.  So I can't really see what the V offers.  Unless the CCD on the V is significantly superior in some other way ...

The pixels on the V are larger which, generally speaking, is a good thing.

I would check out www.qhyccd.com (http://www.qhyccd.com) but I think it could be good for the moon.  I had a QHY5 and whilst it wasn't that sensitive the large chip area did mean that a guide star was nearly always available.  It won't be as sensitive as what you had before and that could be the limitation on planets.  Check the web to see what images people have produced and also take note of what scope they use.  A 10" f5 newtonian is going to give a much brighter image than any of your scopes so bear that in mind when you look at those images.

Robert

BTW. shouldn't this be in the Technical section  :-?

I thought it is borderline regarding the correct section   :o
I think that the V has a smaller chip but is better for lunar, planetary imaging, more fps
Seems like, smaller chip is best for imaging & larger for guiding. Was looking at the 03 DMK larger chip, as well, a lot more expensive.

Don't get me wrong, the V may well be very good, it's just that I don't see many Planetary imagers using it...

Well, I have sent my webcam, which I use for guiding,  off for a cable replacement & used the SX, for guiding the other night. Perhaps I should think of the  most suitable for lunar & planetary imaging.

have you looked at this.

You can borrow mine for a while if you want to try it out.

I did look at that Mac, thanks for the offer, but being that, as long as the webcam is ok, I have the webcam & SXM7 I can use for guiding, I do not now have a moon/planetary one.

PS I must get to Carole & get your x5, so I can try it out before you have it back

Oh Ok, I see it can be used for planetary as well. I would not mind borrowing it Mac, but you are a long way away now...I assume you have moved

[HijackAlert]Banks eh. Do nothing for 4 weeks and complain when you give them a hurryup.
They have sat on our mortgage offer doing nothing, saying they are waiting for us. Work that one out.
The bank staff posted 3 complaints about the underwriters doing nothing.[/HijackAlert]

Nope, still in London. although thats looking like it might change in the next two weeks or so.
I can bring them to the next meeting or pop them round earlier if so.

Mac.

Probably wont be imaging for a couple of months.
