Title: NGC6960 - The Veil Nebula at DSC
Post by: MarkS on May 16, 2010, 20:44:29
The Veil Nebula taken on Friday night (14 May) at DSC.

This was just an experiment - it was very low in the sky ("in the murk") and then clouds came over.  Only ten 5 minute exposures were usable and 3 satellites went through the image.  Also, the camera still hasn't been accurately orientated on the focusing tube so the stars at the top are quite blurry.  But, all in all,  I'm quite pleased with the result.

I intend to have a proper go at this subject later in the Summer.

Details:
H-alpha modded Canon EOS 350D on Tak Epsilon 180ED at F/2.8 with Astronomik CLS filter
10 x 5minute exposures
Stacked, asinh range compression and 2/3 scaling in IRIS

That's excellent considering where the subject was with lots of the faint stuff showing.

The stars look good to me...

Again Mark, I knew this would be a good one.

Really nice image Mark. Considering the not ideal conditions you've done really well to get so much detail.

Another great image, that expensive banana is paying off.  ;)

Obviously, still a long way to go with this one (subs wise) but really looking like it'll be a cracker...

My only comment would be on the framing... the whole veil nebula has 3 bits to it... you've only got two - if you move the witches broom to RHS I am sure you can fit it all in with the FOV your combo gives.... See here:

Looking good anyway - John

Thanks John.

I've already thought about imaging the whole nebula - it'll be a bit tight with the present orientation so I was thinking of turning the camera through 90deg and making a mosiac of 2 images.
