Title: dovetails and bars
Post by: Mac on Feb 07, 2010, 14:49:39
OK

Having been fed up with the problems with my mount for some time, i've decided to take the plunge.
Im converting the LX200 over to an OTA. so i can use it with my EQ6.

Ive contacted telescope house regarding this dove tail and i'm just waiting to hear back from them.
http://www.telescopehouse.com/acatalog/Losmandy_Dovetail_For_Meade_LX_10__.html (http://www.telescopehouse.com/acatalog/Losmandy_Dovetail_For_Meade_LX_10__.html)

Just realised the EQ6 has a Vixen dovetail.
Nuts. (not as bad a Bo[^!$ks)

Ok.

Do i go down the route of side by side, having the LX200 next to the williams?
on a dual bar
Or do i go down the other route of having them on top of each other.

I will be using my Nikon as well for wide field.

At the moment all i have in the way of dovetails is
a vixen dovetail with rings attached for the W/O plus the heath robinson bit on the top.

any ideas.

Cheers
Mac.

ok.

Just found this link.
OTA vixen for the lx200 10"
http://www.firstlightoptics.com/proddetail.php?prod=adm_dovetail_ota (http://www.firstlightoptics.com/proddetail.php?prod=adm_dovetail_ota)

probably get this anyway.
Any ideas for a dual bar?

You can get a Losmandy head for the EQ6

I've seen that and was thinking about it, but as i've already got a vixen plate for the W/O

I'd keep it the same, so that when i do get a double bar its going to be easier.
Rather then looking for a dual vixen losmondy bar.

I would get a dual bar & have a choice. The Nikon could then fit in the middle

hmmmmm, good idea, might not fit though, it is wide, and with both the 10" and the WO on it as well.
I've got a mount for both scopes, so i can fit the camera on any of them.

At the moment i'm waiting for first light optics to get back as they have vixon mount for the lx200,
as well as a vixon dual bar :D

Fingers crossed i might have them for deep sky camp.

Mac,

Piggyback the guidescope on the main scope like I do.  Far less problem with flexure and I wouldn't wnat to mount a scope that heavy in a side by side bar unless it was very substantial.

I use the ADM mini-dovetail system for the guidescope:

Bingo. Thats just what im looking for.

Although im just waiting to see if there is a dovetail that can fit the lx200 and the W/O riings.

Dont fancy buying another set of rings again.....

I'd agree with Mark that a piggyback arrangement will be far more stable than a dual bar.
