Title: Moon
Post by: Fay on Nov 26, 2009, 15:13:39
Not too exciting but I was pleased to have taken it as follows:20x1000th sec, ha, cls, Atik 314L/Skywatcher 6" Mak. Cass. FL1800

Same as above but 30x1000th sec, bit out of focus

1st one looks better, I like it, well focused and well balanced.

Very nice,

shame about the focus though.
try a little unsharp mask in photoshop,
or even Marks little software prog, might help.

ps Im free mon - wed - thu next week for the hard disk..

Nice images Fay, especially the first.
Good to see old faithful can still be a great subject when the weather is not in our favour.

Fay,

You've got some good data there.
I took the liberty of passing this through my deconvolution program (even though it was just a jpeg).
You'll probably find that Registax Wavelets would also do a reasonable job.

Wow that is good Mark!!!!! I am assuming that Registax would not stack FITS, but is ok to do wavelets on JPG.
Mark deconvolution program, can you tell me again, how to do it.

I was talking to Tony Buick last night & he said the BAA had contacted him regarding something happened in one of the craters on the night I took these pictures. He is not sure what but  asked to see the images .......just in case.

Fay,

If you save your file as a 16bit TIF then you won't introduce the compression artifacts that occur in JPGs.   Deconvolution then introduces less noise (because you have less noise to start with)

You *might* be able to open the TIF it in Registax and apply wavelets - I'm not sure.

Oh ok, Mark, I thought you applied your "special technique"  I never thought of opening it up in Registax for the final tweak. I will have a go at the tiff

Yes, I did apply my "special technique".

But since you have the raw data it's probably worth you giving it try in Registax, also.

How do you process a very bright edge of Moon   thanks

Me too. When I image the moon I usually get a really bright edge even in unsharpened images.

I haven't made it an img link as I don't want to hijack Fay's thread and here lovely images.

I seem to recall you can stack FITs in Registax 5 and you can open TIFFs for wavelet enhancement only.

Duncan, I think 2 lots of exposures would have to be done to combat the bright edge & then done in layers in PS.  Will have to have a look at Registax 5.

I did do wavelets/TIFF in my version
