Had my ED80 almost a year but only ever used it for guiding so last night decided to image with it.. Think I'll be using it a lot more as image scale good for a lot of the galaxies etc. Good to see 'propellor' in M13. M101 is a toughie from a light polluted location....

They're both very good John - I wondered why you've been so quiet :)
M101 is a very hard target as the arms are so faint so definitely more subs required, M13 looks excellent and you've got a nicely resolved core.

The M13 looks very good - perfectly exposed and lots of fainter stars beginning to appear. What is the propellor? M101 definitely needs more subs to do it justice.
The stars look sharp without hint of coma. Definitely worth doing more imaging with that scope ...

Thks Robert/ Mark. Well Mark I think it's called the propellor...If you look at m13 at approx 6 oclock position you can see some dust lanes in the glob that have the appearance of a propellor... Hope the enlarged & cropped image below helps...

they have come up really well. I can see they are a really good subject, at the moment. Don't take too long when being worn out from the night before!!
Cheers Chris & Fay. Yep I must admit ED80 looks very promising especially with my small CCD for imaging. Fay - globs are not too bad - The m13 above was only 20X3mins - I actually decided to do this at end of night (after m101) just cause I could see Hercules & thought it would be a good test for the ED80. Shock horror I actually found it manually as well...!!! Guess I must have learnt something after 6 years or so... :-)

Great first run of the scope man, Clusters being the acid test of a scopes performance, way less coma than I get with mine too, think it might be time for me to get mine looked at.

Cheers Daniel - I only image with a very small chip so helps with any potential coma issues but as Chris always points out the ED80 is a damn good scope for the money - I only paid £150 for mine 2nd hand... can't grumble at that..
