Today's (May 4th, 2006) "In Our Time" on Radio 4 was about "Astronomy and Empire". It's repeated (though in edited form, and I bet they cut the astronomically interesting bits) at 21:30 tonight, and will also be on the BBC website somewhere for downloading...
