Title: VDB152 Dark nebula
Post by: Carole on Jul 08, 2018, 23:45:04
I and a non OAS member (Lorenzo) went to Cairds campsite this weekend, boy it was hot, and we are doing it again next weekend - we must be mad.

The Moon was rising at 2am and 2.40 but a small crescent.  Skies were mostly clear but Saturday better than Friday night.

Never done a dark nebula before so decided to spend both nights on the same target taking Luminance only on the WO/Atik314L camera and LRGB with the ED80/Atik460EX (dual rig).

It's been a while since I did any broadband with the Atik314L and the stars were much larger than those on the Atik460EX so I think I will only do narrowband with the Atik314L in future.

Luminance 8 x 600 (Atik314L) + 5  x 600 (Atik460EX) on Friday
Luminance 9 x 900 (Atik314L) and 9 x 600 (Atik460EX) on Saturday
RGB 3 x 200secs binned x 2 on Friday (All Atik460)
RGB 5 x 300secs binned x 2 on Saturday (all Atik460)
Total Luminance 5h 55m, total RGB 1h 43m

Grand total 7 hours and 38 minutes

I do like that , especially the brights stars shining through the dark nebula.

Thanks Roger,
Quoteespecially the brights stars shining through the dark nebula.
yes in my opinion that's the only attraction to imaging this dark nebula.

That's an excellent result on a very tough target!

Your colours look perfect.  Overall, very well done!

Thanks Mark, I do tend to go blindly ahead with targets I fancy doing without knowing how difficult they are beforehand.
