Title: M42 & Horsehead collaborative image
Post by: Carole on Jan 24, 2016, 21:17:54
I suggested to Fay that since we both did the same target, Fay in Ha and me in colour with the DSLR, and that the FOV and orientation was similar, that we do a collaborative image as below.

Image deleted, see better version below.

Interesting experiment - just doesn't quite look right though... colours?

Yes it wasn't as straight forward as I had expected, did the normal adjustments to the colour after adding Ha, and other than leaving it salmon pink this is how it came out.

Did you add Ha to the right channels ?

I think it looks very good.

I tried adding Ha to the red channel Robert, but the whole image turned predominantly red and so I ended up just adding it as Luminance.

This is the Ha to Red channel version, I have managed to tame down the red a bit this time and now I think it looks better than the first version.

Just thought it would be interesting to combine two members efforts, seeing as how we did the same target - same night - me with colour and Fay with Ha - almost same FOV and neither of us knew the other was doing it which is really bizarre.

Yes adding it to red like that would make it pink.  Why don't you try mixing the Ha into the red channel (75% red to 25% Ha) so the RGB ratios are still the same (1:1:1) then using the Ha as a luminance enhancement layer ?  Just a thought...

Ha ha, that's what I have just done (ish).  See above.

The new one is much better than the original in my opinion.

perhaps mine would be a better candidate if not so hazy due to moon

Well mine was more likely to suffer from the Moon being DSLR than an Ha filter.  Still a good exercise.  Mine was really just a practice "go" with the camera lens.
