Title: M78 from DSC
Post by: Carole on Oct 11, 2015, 15:16:40
Taken from Cairds Campsite on Thursday early hours.
You may recall I tried this from Kelling last month, but being a pre-dawn object I couldn't get much data, probably why I struggled with the RGB which I will try to get again some time.

Two imaging cameras and scopes  HEQ5
A: WOZS71 + FR x 0.8/ Atik314L
B: SW ED80 + FR x 0.8/ Atik460

A: 12 x 600 Lum
B: 9 x 600 (no filter I didn't have a luminance filter for this wheel so took a chance)
RGB data from Kelling Heath approx 4 x 300secs each

Total imaging time = 4 1/4 hours

definitely an improvement on the first version the dark lanes are starting to become clearer to the left of the nebula. I'm confused about the subs on the B camera were they without any filter? I think this could build into something really good once you get more data, are you planning on collecting more data?

Correct, this is my 2nd filter wheel and I only have Ha and Oiii filters for that and 3 empty holes.
I am planning on buying a luminance filter though.

Yes I am initially planning on getting better colour data and Ha as I think Barnards loop is close by.  Also some more luminance if I get time as well.

lot of nice detail there, Carole, a nice subject to do, has to be colour though

That looks very good Carole.  Looks to me like an object that would absorb as many subs as you can throw at it.

Thanks Robert, trouble at the moment is I have to stay up until about 2am to start imaging it, so might have to wait until Winterfest at Kelling.

Another really tough object that one!  It's coming out really well with those dust lanes excellently resolved by the luminance data.

However, it needs more colour data because all I'm seeing at the moment is the blue.

Are you planning to capture more data?

I went back to my original colour data which i got at Kelling and is very poor which I think was due to it then being a pre-dawn object and probably too washed out.

Looks like I just missed Barnard's loop, must have a think about trying to include it when I get some more data.
