Title: M63 Sunflower Galaxy from Kelling Heath
Post by: Carole on Apr 21, 2015, 14:02:52
Lum 6 x 10mins
RGB  300secs binned x 2
R3, G4, B3

Atik314 & focal reducer x 0.8
Skywatcher ED120

I also took some Ha but it didn't do anything for the target so have left it out.

Wow that's fantastic! You can see the structure of the galaxy and dust lanes.

That one is suffering from green again  :unwell:

Something has gone strange at the core also.

I think I prefer your other three Kelling images.

Looks nice Carole - very green though - also why have all the bright stars got a black halo around them - do you do something in processing?

Thanks guys.  It's strange but I processed this a few times, and every time I got a different colour.

Quotealso why have all the bright stars got a black halo around them
I think I did some high pass or sharpening to the galaxy and tried to isolate the stars so it didn't affect them as well, but looks like I didn't get the feathering right and the one on top of the galaxy which is the worst one was even more difficult to isolate.

I did all the processing at Kelling in less than idea conditions, so might need to take another look at it now I am home.

The De-greened version and I've attempted to rectify the stars, at least the worst ones.

That is better Carole.

There are other tiny galaxies in that shot aren't there?

I can see a couple of faint ones.

Title: Re: M63 Sunflower Galaxy from Kelling Heath + Ha data

After a bit of a struggle with processing, I have now added the Ha to the image.

So same as above + 4 x 600secs Ha.

Really nice Carole. The Ha really brings out the star forming regions.

The colour balance and the Ha help a lot!
