Who is planning to go to DSC beginning of March?

Me if the weather is OK

And (as I said last night, for the benefit of those that didn't go to AGM  :P) the venue will be decided on the weather during the week.  If it doesn't rain it will be Rother Valley if there is a fair bit of rain it will be Blacklands

Me! Me! Me!  +:flame:+ :baa: = A good weekend!

Ah! The joy of the outdoors and the camp camaraderie. Not to mention the cider/beer/wine/stickies/spirits (though not in the same mug at the same time).   A "cloudy" sky would be nice as well.  ;)

Not sure about the sheep but Tony may have thoughts on that score.

It depends on the weather.  The websites I have looked on so far do not look very optimistic for that weekend.

When will these clouds ever end?????????????

I'll only come down if there's a chance of clear sky.  Otherwise I'll be at home packing - looks like we'll be exchanging contracts in the coming week.  Lots to do!

Well so far the forecast is for clouds but as I'm going nuts at home I'll probably go anyway - unless it's chucking down.

Rother and Blacklands have both had some rain every day since friday (daytime or night) which is not good for Rother.
I'll whack off an email to Jackie to find out what the ground conditions are like but I'm leaning towards Blacklands

I believe it is.

From what I understand of Mac's, they drain the water from certain areas of the ground then distribute it evenly over the places you want to get dry (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_VTfcx7bG__M/TWzyNQVtfXI/AAAAAAAABMQ/NgmTgpJ1PfI/ROFL2.gif)

Talking of water.....................................

Just filled the van up with water - not the tank - the van

I have a leak on the water pump - So it's off to Johns Cross tomorrow (at Robertsbridge) to get a new one.
Depending what time I get there, I might check out the ground conditions at Rother Valley.

Just had a reply from Jackie  :(

QuoteHello Mick,

Yes we have had lots of rain and at the moment can't get any vehicle onto the field as the entrance is very wet, though parts of the field higher up are quite firm.

I would suggest that we watch the weather - if it doesn't rain for the rest of the week then you could probably camp and Colin could help you get up the field. However your Motorhome would have to stay on the shingle area.

Let me know your thoughts.

Best Wishes
Jackie

It's neither warm enough or windy enough to dry the ground so I think we should give Rother a miss this time and head off to Blacklands - It's not going to be much fun being towed in and towed out.

Yes - I agree with Blacklands (assuming I go - only if a clear night is expected).

My car got stuck in Nov at Rother Valley and it had hardly been raining ...

Although I want to go, I must feel it is worth all the effort. It is always like this, we can never look forward to it the week before as weather forecasts are never accurate enough.

I have to get my camping shopping today, going or not, & it will probably be all down hill from then on

I have a solution to that - buy things you can also eat at home if you end up not going - like a huge fry-up!!!   It's great to have a huge fry-up in a field but if you end up not going, at least you can have a huge fry-up at home to mitigate some of the frustration.

And weird French stuff can also be drunk at home!

How is Blacklands ground Mick?

I haven't checked Fay, but Blacklands does drain better than Rother and it's not on a hill.
I'll email anyway.

If all is well I intend to go Friday as usual and may even stay on Sunday

I agree with Mark, all you also need to do is roll around in the mud a bit and pack unpack pack and unpack your car outside your house and drive around the block 100 miles, same feeling of dirtyness, cleanlyness and also packing without the need to stay in a wet field.

Sorted...

F-PSC version, where you drive 720 miles south to see clouds and drive 720 miles back whilst burning money, a more advanced version of the same game.

QuoteHi Mick,

The field is wet, however there are places dry enough to put the tent, the motor home has to be on the drive (hard) around the field.
If you do decide to come, could you please fill in the booking request form on our website. www.blacklandsfarm.co.uk

Thanks

Well have deliberated & congitated & have decided that I am not going. Fried breakfasts for the week!!!!

All a bit iffy & if not a lot of us around, it is not the same, and if we are scattered regarding dry pitches, not good.
So will have to wait until next time, after Kelling, when we can have a good chat, drink, laugh & image in the warmer weather.

The van has it's advantages over a tent -
I can drive to a hookup around the road
Gas central heating
