Isle of Wight Star Party 2009

BOOKINGS NOW BEING TAKEN

Come and Enjoy Some of the Darkest Skies in the South 26th - 30th March
2009. For more details see www.iowstarparty.org or email
info@iowstarparty.org or telephone 01983 731 759.

"The location on the south coast of the island offers almost 180-degree
southerly views across the Channel. Last year's astronomical highlights
included the lower half of Canis Major which is so near the horizon that
it is not normally visible from other sites,  Sirius' 'Pup' and NGC 3242
in Hydra. The Sky Quality Meter gave a reading of 21.05.

Daytime activities include a visit to Vectis AS's Isle of Wight
Observatory and the National Trust's Needles New Battery (Ex-rocket
testing site), with
(hopefully) a talk by someone who used to work on the secret rocket
testing programme there.

The holiday centre provides some excellent camping facilities, and there
are also heated en-suite chalets for those who don't want to brave the
elements.
A kitchen/tea/coffee room allows for free hot drinks to be available all
night long and lockable rooms are available for the safe storage of
equipment and the trade stands. A large dining area provides
accommodation, not only for a wonderful cooked breakfast, but can also
double up as a wet weather location and meeting/reception room."

It's right on top of the Kelling Heath trip.  Maybe another year Jim.
