Title: Lovejoy naked eye
Post by: MarkS on Jan 06, 2015, 19:29:50
I have just seen Lovejoy naked eye for the first time - despite the moonlight (Tues 7:30pm).  It looks even better in binos.  I estimate round about mag 4 in brightness.

From Saiph to Rigel (the 2 main bottom stars of Orion) go 1.5x that distance again and you should find in binos even from town.

Yes, from Saiph to Rigel and keep going in a straight line.

Good view in binos despite moon and street lights. Roy put camera on tripod and has taken a couple of images. No sign of a tail.

Lovely green capture Mark.

I was out early evening at Otford and couldn't see it naked eye. Even later in the evening with MarkH at his house I couldn't see it naked eye. We did manage to find it with bins though, and I imaged it earlier in the evening. Post later.

Petra and I found it very easily with the binos but couldn't see it naked eye. The moon was too bright.

It's very obviously green compared to the surrounding white stars.

We also had a look at Jupiter and all 4 moons were clearly visible.

Even saw it in Bromley's shitty skies... (just.. :-))

Single 30 sec - compact on garden table... don't you just love the light pollution... :-) :-)
