I took this photo with my Olympus Mu mini digi-camera from an upstairs window. I say that, as I am going to try to put it on the Forum, having not done that before, and if it dosn`t appear, I`m sorry and will try again. So here goes:-
(http://www.amateur-astronomy.org/Images/032.jpg)
oh, dear...... nothing happened. Oh well, back to the drawing board......... :(
Well I can see it...
nice pic Doug :)
To make the picture appear, there were a couple of things I needed to change. The correct start of the link is "http://", you had a semicolon and one /. Then select the whole of the link from before http to after .jpg and then press the image button which is the first one on the left in the middle row of buttons above the box where you type your message into. It's got this (http://forum.orpington-astronomy.org.uk/Themes/oas/images/bbc/img.gif) picture on it. This will then put img tags around the link so the server knows to show the image rather than just the link.
Thanks Ian, for the edit. I have noted your instructions to this ancient warrior and, as they used to say when I was at school, ..."will try to do better next time". And thank you, Mike. I obviously mis-typed your instruction for the link, but iwll do better next time. Much appreciated to all you teachers.
`Umble Doug!! ;)
no worries Doug. The day they come up with a computer that can say, "it's not quite right, but I know what you mean", I'll be out of a job.
I can't see it
I can't see it either, I've done a right click and properties and think I have the URL address, so i'll have a go at posting it.
I hope that works.
Don't worry Doug I had a lot of problems trying to post images on the forum to start with, but it's easy when you know how, it's just findings out what you did wrong that takes the time.
thanks
Carole
nowt to do with that Carole. I don't know why you and Fay can't see it...
Well it still didn't come up using the copied URL address and putting it between (img)(img) so can any-one else do it?
Carole
what does your browser say when you follow this link?
http://www.amateur-astronomy.org/Images/032.jpg (http://www.amateur-astronomy.org/Images/032.jpg)
That is really strange because if I click on your link I get Doug's image
(Nice picture Doug by the way)
But if I copy it into my browser it says the address is invalid.
It is the same address that I put between (img)(img) so what's going on?
Carole
Carol Its not the same link.
The link on the images has one to many / at the beginning.
Ians link is the correct address.
http://www.amateur-astronomy.org/Images/032.jpg
the one posted by doug is
http:///www.amateur-astronomy.org/Images/032.jpg
Just re-edit the link and remove one of the / inbetween the Http: and WWW
well that's an odd one. You're right Mac. I didn't notice I'd added an extra / mostly because I could see the image embedded. It's now fixed. Clearly my browser said "well that's not correct, but I know what you're getting at".
Might explain why I don't have a job ;)
Nice piccie, Doug. Looks fine from here. ;)
Very nice Doug!!!!
...though I found things in the OAS gallery a little... mangled...
I can see you tried to upload the image to the gallery, but I confess I can't figure out just what you did wrong to mangle things so... interestingly... ;)
Nice image Doug
It`s wonderful what a lack of knowledge on my part can spark off............ ;)
........ and sorry, Rick. I hope I haven`t mangled the Gallery up irreparably. You`ll have to re-explain how to do it properly. I will learn to do it one eon!!!! :(
Nice pic Doug. I also took one with my camera hand held, no telescope and was thinking of trying to upload it but am having second thoughts now as I couldn't see Doug's pic either and am also very good at mangling things!
There are instructions on how to put images into the gallery in this topic (http://forum.orpington-astronomy.org.uk/index.php?topic=2501.0).
I'm actually not quite sure where the gallery problems came from, but they seem to have something to do with something you (Doug) did. If I figure it out, I'll adjust the instructions to help other folk avoid the issue. Likewise, if it turns out to be something else entirely... ;)
Right I have successfully put my moon and venus picture into the gallery. Not sure if that is the right place for it as it doesn't compare with all the other fantastic images. I really intended to put it in here not the gallery but I haven't figured that out yet and now I am off to recover with a cup of tea!
I thought it was Doug's Moon & Venus image?!?!?!? I am confused now.
Dougs is on "amateur-astronomy" and Delphines is on "OAS"
I think - although I have been known to get things wrong

Oh! I wondered why I couldn't find Doug's. Mine is the one where I am called Murray! - and has a lighter background with some twigs on the left hand side. I have most likely put mine in the wrong place - sorry :-?
This has to be turning into the most confusing OAS thread of all time....
I blame Doug for starting it.......
John
And he broke the Gallery
I am going to have a go at posting Delphine's which is also a very nice picture, but interesting to see that this URL address on the gallery also has two forward slashes as follows:
http://gallery.orpington-astronomy.org.uk/albums/userpics/10010/normal_Moon___Venus_-_27_Feb_2009.JPG
Right now the posting and see if this works!!!

Carole
Nice image.
Quoteinteresting to see that this URL address on the gallery also has two forward slashes as follows:
// is correct and normal, just look at any link on any web site,
it was the one with the three /// that was incorrect.
yup. Two "/" is correct. What was odd was I didn't notice I'd added three when I sorted out Doug's post because my browser (Firefox) decided to display the image anyway...

Yep, you're right. However, while investigating some gallery strangeness I discovered enough fall-out to suggest that Doug had tried to put his image into the OAS gallery...
Hi Carole. Many thanks for putting my image into this thread. One day when I have some energy I will ask you how you did it!!
Cheers
delphine
Yeah... I dropped a boo-boo, didn`t I, Rick??? Sorry, but it gave you something to do while you were using the computer.
I don`t know what happened, but I won`t try putting any pix on the Gallery again in case the server has a brainstorm, or you do, or I do. I don`t generally image much, anyway. By the way, the rollers on the mangle need replacing now........

Simply read Rick's sticky post at the very top of the Astrophotography section entitled "How to post images in this forum" !!
