I'm going to Malta soon with just my binoculars (and the family of course).
Any suggestions as to what to look out for?

I'd be inclined to look at the southern horizon. You'll get better views of what is low on the horizon here and stand a chance of seeing things not visible at all from here.
you could take a look at Sky and Telescope. Malta's latitude is about 35 deg, and S+T have a sky view at 40 so will be more accurate than a UK map.
If possible, I'd go to the southern tip and observe over the Med, should be much reduced light polution that way.
Thanks to all who replied. Had a fantastic time. Saw the Persieds meteor shower over about 3 nights and Scorpius and Sagittarius were spectacular.Managed also to see Capricornus, but failed to find Neptune amongst it!
