That would be helpful Rick can't show them all but just send the best one (or two)

I can send you the *.mp4 files to save you fighting with video downloads from YouTube, if that helps...

Astrophotography / M101 from DSC
Last post by Carole - Today at 17:41:11
I took this back in 2016 when I didn't get enough data due to lack of clear skies.
This time I had a couple of disasters.

only 2 clear nights at DSC and one was misty.

Night 1. I took this with my dual rig ED80 taking LRGB ad Ed72 taking Lum only.
The following day I looked at the data and it was a disaster  the dew heaters had failed on the ED80, and the lum on the Ed72 was slightly out o focus, no idea why cheked it beforehand.

Night 2
Wanted to get the blue Horsehead so removed the ED72 and put the Samyang lens set up on instead.  This left me with only the ED80 (with new dew heater) to get more data on M101.

In total I managed to get only a further 4 Lum and 4 each of RGB beore the Blue Horsehead was rising.
A friend blasted the ED72 (out of focus) data with Blur Exterminator, but there was still not enough colour.

In total:
ED80/Atik460EX
ED72/ Arik460EX

Lum 22 x 600 (3h 40mins)
RGB 40 mins in total

Grand total 4h 20mins.
Needed some nifty processing to get a sikc purse out of a Sow's ear.

Absolutely stunning Rick.

I need to speak to Raf as to how I can get one of these videos onto the members images.  If all else fails I will do some screen shots

Videos linked in Astrophotography (for want of a better place).

Sunspot group 3664 produced a couple more X-class flares (with associated CMEs) as it went round the far side of the Sun. One was X8.7, making it the strongest of this solar cycle so far. By comparison the X3.48 one that came after it was small...

Meanwhile, a sunspot group on the other side that's just rotating into view has also been producing some flares. There was one X2.99 one a day ago...

Astrophotography / Timelapse video of the aurora ...
Last post by Rick - Yesterday at 12:37:33
I've uploaded timelapse videos of the aurora captured on the night of 10th/11th May 2024 by the automatic cameras I have watching the sky from home to YouTube, here:

https://youtu.be/92wchZJUOr0 is from my north-facing colour sky camera
https://youtu.be/V89UxI9MSFI is from my north-east facing meteor camera
https://youtu.be/t5BvsAKdKqY is from my north-north-west facing meteor camera

There's a bonus fireball in one frame at about 0:52 in that last video.

Irritatingly, the colour video is a bit jumpy in places, because the camera seems to get stuck from time to time.

The two meteor cameras are, obviously, tweaked for capturing meteors, and the aurora was just a bit of serendipity. The sky camera is mainly for weather-watching, but managed to catch something of the aurora. I should look into tweaking it a bit to see whether I can get a better view of things like aurora after dark.

The aurora did cause the meteor detection cameras a bit of difficulty, but a few meteors got caught through the light show, like this one:

Astrophotography / Blue Horsehead IC4592 from DSC
Last post by Carole - May 12, 2024, 14:17:51
Was pushing my luck with this target, but it has been on my bucket list for some time and one of the reasons I picked these particular dates for DSC.  If we had booked a month later it would have risen earlier, but there would be less dark sky and hoards of Joe Public on site.

It didn't rise until after midnight, and disappeared by 3.20, so only managed 2 hours 40 mins.  Could have done with 2 nights on it, but as we only had 2 clear nights and those were both a bit iffy, I had the wrong scope on the rig the first night I could have done it, so just continued with my early target.

Samyang lens and Atik460EX
2 hours luminance and 40 minutes binned RGB.
Total imaging time 2 hours 40 minutes

A great collection Roberto, I will have to get cracking on the imaging report now I am back from DSC.
