ESA lifts world's largest telecoms satellite

The "heaviest and most powerful telecommunications satellite ever launched" was yesterday carried aloft atop an Ariane 5 ECA lifter from the European Space Agency's Korou spaceport in French Guiana.

The world's biggest commercial telecommunications satellite has been put in orbit by an Ariane 5 rocket.

The TerreStar-1 platform weighed just shy of seven tonnes at launch.
