Title: Deep Sky Camp - February 2008
Post by: Mike on Dec 03, 2007, 10:26:29
OK the only two suitable dates are 8th Feb when it is a new moon or 29th Feb when the moon rises at 04:00.

Either date is fine for me, if it's cloudy perhaps we could do a "ghost walk" in Pluckey as a group.  Might be fun.

Just booking a holiday and then I will.  If I get the dates I want it won't clash.

Holiday is now booked and since I am going on 3rd March I have voted for the earlier date as preference, but it looks as though the majority have gone for the later date, so if this is chosen I will try to get down for part of it.

If it rains while at Camp, the `scopes will get damp
And that is no good for them, see
Depression sets in, and that is a sin
For we all end up drinking whiskey

So let`s pray for Sun and have lots of fun
While consuming the Scotch in the day.
Then, when night-time arrives and the stars start to shine
          The cider`s arrived; hip hooray...

So come on, astronomers, set up the `scopes
For another year now is upon us
Let it rain, let it snow, let the mighty winds blow
The stalwarts will ALWAYS be with us!

This Christmas we will raise a glass of the stuff
To the lads and the lasses who travel
Out into the frost and the snow and the mist,
We wish we were with you but have to resist
For the cold bites deep into bone marrow.

My apologies to all poets in the Society.

Well done Doug (OAS's Poet Laureate),
and not a sheep mentioned.
John we could have a duel of the poets, between Fay and Doug and anyone else who fancy's themselves. ;)

Fay,

If that is your attempt at poetry, then stick to great imaging and leave the poems to Doug. :D

PS your scope is nearly ready, just need to line up the laser.

OK the consensus is for the 29th. I think Chris was going to arrange it at an alternative camp. I will speak to him.

What was wrong with it?
Title: Re: Deep Sky Camp - February 2008
Post by: Fay on Dec 28, 2007, 11:31:50
Nothing.
I could never line up my subject on the WO, when I had lined it up on the dual plate with the ED80 & It's finderscope, as the WO did not have a finderscope, so Tony has put a laser on it.
It was probably harder as I always line up via the ccd camera & not an eyepiece.

Post by: Mike on Dec 28, 2007, 12:17:20
If you were using it on a dual-plate with the ED80 then whynot just use the finder on the ED80?

I could never get it lined up Mike.
Don't forget, this is a hobby with lots of toys available!!!

Hi Folks,

The un-official DSC will start in March onwards down at Lydd, the campsite John and I went to is not open all year round.  I'm going to find a all year venue but it might take some time.

As for Feb, me and the pikey 2000 will be there if I'm about.

So to confirm the February date is Tuesnoad then?

I seem to have lost the DSC dates for 2008 (I've got them up to April).

Can some-one remind me as I can't find them listed on the site, but I am sure some-one mentioned the whole years dates at one point.

Are you talking about the calendar on sale?
I haven't bought one as I already have two calendars given to me.

I can only find 4 - 7 April under Observing evenings and Special events.

If you've been given two then you have no excuse not to buy one...   ;)

I normally get given about 10 each year from suppliers/ customers & the like.. Mike did a real good job on the layout & it has all the details of DSC's, observing sessions, imaging sessions, monthly meetings new & full moons & some great images from society members... Well worth the £5 in my book....

Cheers,  John.

PS - Haven't actually got the calendar to hand at the moment so can't give you the dates... sorry.

Is this unofficial DSC an extra one?
i.e. in between 29th Feb and April.  It has been a bit confusing as there was talk about finding another site and then the February extra one seems to be confirmed at Tuesnoad.

I'm coming so long as it's not going to be brass monkeys.

My son and some friends (all interested in Astronomy) are planning to come, although I won't bank on it until they are actually there as I've been blown out by my son too many times before.  All full of good intentions until something else like a pop festival or a new girlfriend takes preference.

OK i'm hoping this will work. I've reset the poll and renamed it with new choices. I need to know who is definately going to DSC, who is definately NOT going and who might go - that way I can get rough ideas of numbers so I know how much to buy for when getting cooking ingrediants. Please vote.
