The Thing

Used my Skywatcher StarAdventurer mount on EQ6 tripod. 45min - 9x300s@ISO1600 using Canon 1100D defiltered and photographic UV filter (which seems good at stopping star bloat). Very quickly processed in DeepSkyStacker, no flats, darks, bias. Full size version looks iffy, I think I overstretched something as the stars have dark centres.

Your small stars have holes in them, I have seen this before.  Either focus, which I don't think this is.  The other culprit is the cosmetic tab in DSS.  I hardly ever use DSS now, but when I did/do I make sure the cosmetic tabs are set to as low as you can go.  It has a habit of star eating otherwise.

Aha, yes my Cosmetics are set to 2 pixels. Thanks Carole.
