I wonder if the Hubble organisers decided to take that picture before the discussions about it's demise was aired.
I wonder what congress will think now!

I think that deep image has been planned for a while. Taking very deep images of highly red-shifted objects was always Hubble's primary purpose.

I hope Congress will provide enough money for a replacement for Hubble that'll be better than Hubble. To be fair, it's the "space flight must be perfectly safe" lobby who've caused the service mission cancellation, not Congress. (I wonder what Mike Foale thinks about it...)
